. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Monday, April 11, 2005 -- Telegareth Legacy of Steel is still going strong. After the previous WoW and EQ2 losses, I've found that most guilds are in a state of rebuilding and/or stagnation. While some will wither and die, we here at Evil Empire, Inc. won't let a little thing like small raid numbers hold us back.
After being the first guild on server in Anguish back in October, it's been quite some time getting everyone flagged back into Anguish so we can do some damage to the mobs there. Needless to say, after some rebuilding, it didn't take us long to fire up the old John Deer and begin to farm our good friends Ture, Harrier, and Hanvar. But we aren't just harvesting from Anguish, oh no. There is this whole new Dragons of Norrath expansion to plow through as well. From everyone here at Legacy of Steel, we would like to say "You are welcome" to The Nameless for opening up the Nest for your xp needs.
I'd show pictures, but html is still > me, anyone know a good free html editor? email me and let me know.
At any rate, as i've been looking over the class re-invisioning and peeking at different class' top-ten lists, i've come to the conclusion that there isn't a "Game-wide" top ten list. Seeing as how everyone will have different things that should be on that list, I've decided to offer my own, Top Five list of things that I feel should be addressed, sooner rather than later.
Tele's Top Five Fixes: 1. After five years, i've really always wondered why I must loot each individual item on my corpse. It's highly annoying, can't say that it serves much purpose other than to annoy me. 2. If I can add someone to an expedition across zones, and I can add someone to a task across zones, don't you think it's time i should be able to invite someone to a group or a raid across zones? 3. Along with #2 above, if i can invite a person across zones, wouldn't it be nice if a mage could "Call of the Hero" across zones? Make it an AA ability with 30-minute recast or something, would be nice to add those latecomers to raids without having to resort to super raid gymnastics. 4. I'd like to see more encounters designed with class balance in mind, not make encounters where some raid members are better off just standing around waiting for loot to be called. You want this to be fun, so let everyone have fun, not just a specific few, while the rest miraculously transform into cheerleaders. I can't find the "Summon: Pom-pom" item in game yet. 5. Change the dartboard used for itemization these days. I think there is a magnet behind the "3".
That's it for this update, join us next time when hopefully i'll have mastered the use of pictures! I've given up hope on the english language or grammar, so no need to worry about those anymore. I will survive.... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Wednesday, January 26, 2005 -- Telegareth It has been a trying time in EverQuest since the release of EQII and World of Warcraft. Those two new games have had an interesting effect on the Nameless Server. Population is down, which we all knew would be coming, but those that remain generally enjoy playing EverQuest and it's in that enjoyment of the game where the Evil Empire continues to be strong.
So, what have we been doing since the previous update by Gnattil? Killing stuff, of course, lots of it, and while we are doing it with generally fewer people, we are still doing it which is more a testament to the current members sucking it up and playing hard in order to pull some amazing stuff off.
Riftseekers Royals? Met their demise. Trials of Mata Muram? Passed Access to Citadel of Anguish? Obtained
Have we done everything there is to do? Nope, we have plenty on our agenda to complete yet, including Anguish Progression and I’d really like to see first hand how SOE could screw up the end of Tacvi.
Speaking of SOE, there are some frustrations I’d like to express which I’m sure not everyone will agree with. First, while I’m happy to read that you are going to do a class re-balancing and actually use player input, I must remain skeptical, as you’ve been saying this for the past 5 years. Considering that the most recent attempt to gain player input via the guild summit has resulted in no net change whatsoever. Be that as it may, my largest problem has not been in the request for input by the player base, but has to do with the reception it receives when it hits the developers. I swear to god they don’t want to hear anything contrary to their way of thinking. They know how it all works on paper, how it should work in game, and there is no changing their minds. That is the biggest problem SOE has. How much input was given over the past 6-months that was simply stuffed in the circular file because “that’s not the way it really works”? There comes a point in time when you have to be open to a little constructive criticism, and in my opinion, the developers simply aren’t. Another point concerns internal communication, I don’t believe you actually have good internal communication. I’d be surprised if the class balance guy ever talked to the encounter designers. Theoretical DPS of a wizard vs. theoretical DPS of a rogue yet toss that into any high-end encounter and the balance goes kaput. Why is this? Are we to accept the fact that we are balanced on paper and not in actual play? I’m just a little sick and tired of the “Trust me” line of crap that I’ve been hearing from SOE over the years. It’s time to put the goods on the table. I don’t want to read about improvements, I want to SEE THEM.
Last thing to SOE, at least for this update. Thanks for making MPG trials more difficult; your timing was impeccable. After losing people to WoW and EQ2, we then faced the challenge of re-flagging to trials buffed beyond recognition while also trying to gear up recruits so that they can actually survive. Setting a guild back 4 months and causing even more people to leave was not the best decision. Leaving it that way for more than a month was even worse.
If any of you readers are wondering if you have the right stuff to be a part of Legacy of Steel, we are always on the lookout for solid, hardcore players who still love to log in and kill the big stuff. Feel you are up to the challenge? Send me an email and we’ll go from there.
Hopefully by the next update I will have mastered the use of pictures, the English language, and grammar, but then again, maybe not….
I've been wasting my breath on you . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Saturday, October 2, 2004 -- Nattil Legacy of Steel Portents of Battle In Gates of Discord (herein referred to as the "Worst Expansion Ever", or "WEE"), there was a zone called Inktu'ta. The wonderous thing about this zone was that it was almost certainly designed by a newer SoE developer. Someone who still had some fresh ideas, and had yet to have his or her spirit broken, like so many other obviously beligerent gamedesigners. Inktu'ta proved to the EQ world that strange and unusual (read: no complete heal rotation) raids were not only possible, but greatly entertaining and very challenging. To survive Inktu'ta, you had to work as a team. If half your raid was mofishing in the corner watching porn, it was terribly difficult to do anything but lose. No wonder so many older members have retired! Well, here comes Omens of War, and it's apparent that our proverbial benevolent developer has been given a promotion. Or, knowing the way SoE works, someone stole his notebook and left him face down in a field somewhere. Either way, the end result is that a series of really fucking cool raids. I would like to say however, fuck the lockout timers. We know your excuses for implementing them, and we understand that if you beat the encounter, and collect the loot, you don't get to come back for X days. That's the way EQ works, we're used to that. But this "sorry you lost, try again in several hours" bullshit has got to go. What this is, is a lame attemptto make sure that this expansion will stretch on long enough that you can finish making the next one. THIS IS RETARDED. We enjoy beating ourselves against an encounter until we can learn it. That's what we're good at! Find another way to fill in your content. If you can't come up with one, email us, we'll help you out.
What would a new EQ expansion be without some spell drama?
